The capture of two suspects at the North Station
Recently, two individuals have been arrested at the North Barcelona station, in a police operation that uncovered an attempt to traffic of 10 kilos of highly purity heroin. The intervention took place on March 24, when National Police officers identified a passenger who came from Düsseldorf and showing suspicious behaviors.
Details of the operation and arrests
The man, who resides in Tenerife, had a trip of travel between Africa and Spain with connections to countries in Asia and Europe. Together with another citizen, also a resident of the Canary Islands, who had expressly flown Düsseldorf, they were questioned by police. His restless attitude lifted the suspicions of the agents, who proceeded to review his luggage.
The search reveals the truth
During the search, seven yellow packages hidden in the double bottom of one of the luggage were discovered. The tests confirmed that it was a heroin with a high level of purity, which led to the immediate arrest of the two men for alleged crimes related to drug trafficking.
International research underway
As a result of this incident, the National Police have begun joint investigation with the security forces of Germany and France. This is an example of the modus operandi used by international criminal organizations to move illegal substances, where escorts and mules work in a coordinated way to prevent detection.
The role of escorts in drug trafficking
The escorts, usually members of traffic networks, travel next to the mules to ensure that the drug reaches its destination. If the authorities detain the mule, the escort may escape to inform the organization about the loss of the load, leaving the mule to face all legal liability.
Tips for travelers
In the face of these incidents, the authorities recommend travelers not to turn on baggage in the name of strangers and do not trust the transport of their luggage to people without proper accreditation. Caution is essential to avoid falling into drug trafficking.
