Open doors at L-05 Conservation Center
Recently, the Al-05 Conservation and Exploitation Center of Albatàrrec opened its doors to the public, offering a unique opportunity to get to know first-hand the management of the road infrastructure in the province of Lleida. José Crespín, Deputy Government Delegate, together with Juan Antonio Romero, head of the State Road Unit, were responsible for guiding this day.
Objectives of the day
The event, which is part of the ‘Open Administration Week 2025’ initiative, was the main purpose of giving visibility to the resources that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility uses to ensure the correct maintenance of the AP-2 motorway and other state routes. Attendees were able to learn about traffic management, road safety and incident response logistics.
The resources and technology involved
The center not only manages traffic, but also houses a significant part of the machinery related to the ‘Winter Vianess Plan’. This plan is essential during the coldest months, when roads can be affected by snow and ice. In total, the road unit in Lleida has 57 drawers, 13 salt warehouses and 19 brine deposits, thus guaranteeing a quick and efficient response.
Commitment to road safety
Crespín emphasized the importance of these days to show the population the work that often goes unnoticed, mentioning that the state road network in Lleida exceeds 500 kilometers. Annually, the ministry allocates more than € 15 million to ensure that these roads are in optimum condition.

More than 180 professionals work tirelessly 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to ensure the safety and quality of driving. Its effort is essential to maintaining roads in optimum condition and preventing incidents.
Managed infrastructure
The State Road Unit in Lleida manages a total of five centers located in Lleida, Tàrrega, Torrefarrera, Vielha and La Seu d’Urgell. These facilities are responsible for various important infrastructures, including the A-2, AP-2, A-22, A-14, N-II, N-230, N-240, N-260, N-141, N-145 and LL-11.
