Return of the traditional caramels songs
This April, the streets of La Seu d’Urgell and Castellciuat will vibrate again with the melodies of the Caramelles, an event that has become an emblematic tradition to celebrate Easter. On April 19 and 20, several musical groups, including children’s caramels, the Caramelles Choir of the San Sebastián Brotherhood and the Castellciutat Caramellaires, will offer performances that promise to love premises and visitors.
A fully prepared repertoire
On Saturday, April 19, in the morning, more than sixty young talents from the Choral Singing Groups of the Municipal School of Music and Primary students of the Albert Vives, Pau Claris and La Salle schools will present a carefully rehearsed repertoire. The selected pieces include the Higini Caselles ‘Flowers’ March, the ‘Spring’ sardana by Joan Roure and Jané, and the Havanera ‘Spring Idili’ by Jaume Planella.
Itinerary of the songs
Directed by Rafel Llobet, the singers will begin their performance in Plaça de les Monges at quarter past eleven in the morning, with stops at various emblematic points such as Plaça del Patalín, the Parador, and the Seminary, ending their route to the Andria Hotel. The collaboration with the Caramelles Choir of the Brotherhood of San Sebastián will be held in the Plaza dels Oms at three -quarters of eleven.

For its part, the Caramelles Choir of the Brotherhood of San Sebastián, which has around 60 singers and a dozen musicians, will also be preparing for their performances the same weekend. Organized by the Brotherhood and with the support of the City Council of La Seu and other entities, the songs will begin on Saturday at 10:30 in the Plaza de Soldevila.
A diverse and exciting repertoire
This year’s repertoire will include the sardana ‘Spring’ by Mn. Albert Vives i Mir, The Waltz ‘The Easter Festival’ by Josep Voltas Viñas, the Havanera ‘La Barqueta’ by Ramon Bartumeus i Mola, and the Masurca ‘Day of Easter’ by Francesc de Paula Bové, which will be performed for the first time.
Castellciutat candy
On Easter Sunday, the Castellciutat Caramellaires, with about fifty singers directed by Toni Bernadó, will offer their morning concert. From 8 am, they will cross the streets of the village until eleven, at which time they will make the mass sung in the church.
A tradition that unites
The organization emphasizes the importance of collaboration between singers, musicians, teachers and families to keep this tradition alive. In addition, they call on the community to participate and enjoy the songs, thus reinforcing the social and cultural links of La Seu d’Urgell.
