Religious and social entities urge the parties to consider the extraordinary regularization of foreigners

The impact of administrative irregularity on the lives of migrants

The Spanish Conference of Religious, Cáritas, the Migration Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and the Network of Entities for Solidarity Development ask the political groups in the Parliament to take into consideration a Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP) on the extraordinary regularization of people foreign

With full awareness of the consequences of administrative irregularity in the lives of migrants, these entities have supported an extraordinary regularization of people in an irregular situation in the country since 2021.

Wide citizen and civil society support

This process has received broad support from civil society and more than 700,000 citizens, whose signatures have allowed it to be presented to the Congress of Deputies as a People’s Legislative Initiative.

Next Tuesday, April 9, the political parties will have to decide whether to take this initiative into consideration, opening a period of dialogue, or reject its processing without an in-depth debate.

Appeal to democratic legitimacy

It is incomprehensible that this initiative is not the subject of debate by political representatives, considering its potentially positive impact on the lives of many people and the democratic support of hundreds of thousands of citizens through their signatures.

For this reason, the ecclesial entities invite the parties with parliamentary representation to start a constructive dialogue and vote in favor of taking the ILP into consideration.
