Ed Sheeran’s surprising revelation

In a recent chat on the podcast ‘Therapuss with Jack Shane’, renowned musician Ed Sheeran surprised his fans by confessing that he doesn’t use a mobile phone. Instead of sharing his number, he opted to provide his email address, which begs the question: what motivates an artist of his calibre to do without such a common device these days?

The reasons behind his decision

Since ditching his phone in December 2015, Sheeran has reflected on the communication overload he experienced. With his contact count exceeding 10,000, the pressure to maintain continuous conversations became a monumental challenge. ‘Since I was a teenager, my number was in use, but fame brought with it a torrent of messages that never stopped,’ the singer said.

The cost of constant connectivity

The British artist explained that the constant need to be available to respond to messages was exhausting for him. ‘I often found myself caught up in multiple conversations, which kept me from meaningful interactions,’ Sheeran said, highlighting how this dynamic was taking a toll on his time and energy.

A new way to communicate

Sheeran’s solution was to replace his mobile phone with a tablet, limiting his digital communication to his email. Now, he spends just one hour a week checking and responding to messages. “It’s a quick process, I sit in the car and deal with my emails in one go,” he described. This change not only optimizes his time, but also gives him more opportunities for creativity.

The power of boredom

The artist emphasizes that boredom can be a source of inspiration. ‘The moments when I have nothing to do, even when my wife is away for a moment, are ideal for thinking of new lyrics and melodies,’ he concluded, underlining the importance of empty spaces in his life.

Curiosities about his personal life

The decision to go cell phone-free is not the only peculiarity in Sheeran’s life. In early 2022, it was revealed that he was building a chapel on his property in England, which already had a lake, a forest and a recording studio. The most unusual thing about this project is the inclusion of a burial area, a space intended for his eternal rest, reflecting his desire to be close to his loved ones even after death.

A personal legacy

Completed in August 2023, this chapel becomes a symbol of Sheeran’s commitment to his roots and his family. ‘I want to make sure there is a place for me here, where I have lived and where my loved ones can come and remember,’ he added, showing his deep connection to his home and personal life.
