New traffic regulations from October
As of October 1, Esparreguera City Council will implement a system of penalties for vehicles that access the pedestrian island without permission. This system is currently in the testing phase, with the aim of ensuring that only authorized vehicles can drive through this restricted area.
Permission request
Since July, residents and traders in the area can apply for the necessary permits to access the island. This authorization is essential for those who need access by vehicle, as access without a permit will be restricted to loading and unloading at specific times.
Limited access hours
Trespassing will only be allowed during certain hours: Monday through Friday, 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Outside these hours, the use of vehicles will be prohibited.
Who can obtain authorization?
The recently approved regulations allow various groups to obtain permits. Registered residents, business owners, relatives of people with reduced mobility and funeral service vehicles can request permanent authorizations to access the island.
Details about the restricted area
The pedestrian island includes several streets, such as Carrer dels Cavallers, Carrer Gran and Carrer de les Hortes, with restricted access to unauthorized vehicles. The aim is to preserve the space for pedestrians and improve the quality of life of the residents.
Future of traffic on the pedestrian island
The councilor for Mobility has emphasized that, until the sanctions come into force, a rolling period will be carried out to ensure that the system works properly. Authorized vehicles will be registered in a database to avoid unnecessary penalties.
Exceptions and temporary authorizations
Vehicles will be able to access the island in cases of emergency or for specific situations, such as unloading goods or medical transfers. These authorizations can be requested up to 72 hours after the incident.
With these new measures, Esparreguera seeks to improve coexistence between vehicles and pedestrians, promoting a safer and more accessible environment for all citizens.
