A film trip to the mountains
The Mountain Cycle of the Diputación de Tarragona begins a new stage with a captivating program for all those who are passionate about climbing and mountaineering. From March 6 to April 3, every Thursday at 7 pm, the Diputació Auditorium will become the stage for sessions that will combine documentaries and conferences given by prominent mountaineers.
An inspiring opening
The opening of the cycle will take place on March 6 with the talk ‘The challenge of the four elements’, by the prestigious brothers Iker and Eneko Pou. Recognized by their feats in the world of mountaineering, the brothers will share an exciting adventure that has led them to cross continents, from Patagonia to Himalayas.
The Pou brothers’ trips
With a trajectory that covers more than 70 countries and 140 expeditions, Iker and Eneko have managed to open new climbing routes in different and demanding environments, thus demonstrating their dedication and courage in sport.
Documentaries that make the difference
On March 13, ‘Pasang: In the Shadow of Everest’ will be screened, a documentary that tells the story of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepalese woman to conquer Everest. Not only was this milestone a personal triumph, but also inspired a significant social change to Nepal.
Premis I recognitions
The documentary has received several awards, including the best film at the BBVA Festival in Torelló, thus emphasizing its quality and emotional impact.
A journey inside the earth
On March 20, the cycle will present the conference ‘Birth and death of a volcano: Tajogaite 2021’, by the speleologist Raúl Pérez. In this talk, Pérez will take us through the events that surrounded the formation and extinction of the Tajogaite volcano in the Canary Islands.
A scientist in action
Raúl Pérez, with a prominent career in geology and volcanology, will share his experiences and knowledge on this natural phenomenon, increasing our understanding of terrestrial dynamics.
Awards and recognition in the world of mountaineering
During the cycle, the films ‘Rope’ and ‘Dream Mountain’ will also be screened, which have been recognized at multiple festivals for their inspirational narratives about mountaineers who have overcome great challenges.
The legacy of the mountains
With a closing that promises to be memorable, on April 3, Parvaneh Kazemi will share his story as an mountaineering woman, inspiring the new generations to follow their dreams in the mountains.
Decentralization and accessibility
The mountain cycle will not be limited to Tarragona, as it will also be expanded to other municipalities such as La Bisbal del Penedès, Montblanc, Reus and Tortosa, with the aim of sending these inspirers to a wider audience.
A Cultural Referent
With 18 editions behind, the mountain cycle has consolidated its position as an essential platform for mountaineering, showing high quality documentaries that are not found in commercial circuits, and providing a unique experience to all attendees.
With a wide range of activities and rich programming, the mountain cycle will continue to be a reference space for culture and sport in Tarragona, attracting both the mountainous and the general public.
