A look at the Islamic past
On April 4 at 7pm, the Camilo Visedo Municipal Archaeological Museum in Alcoy will host a conference that promises to discover the mysteries of the city’s Islamic past. Titled ‘Al-Segly before Alcoy (before the Archaeological Register)’, this talk will be given by the archeologist Germán Pérez Botí.
A cycle of cultural knowledge
Organized by the City Council of Alcoy in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum, this is the third conference of the cycle ‘At the Home of the Museum 2025’. On this occasion, the aim is to deepen the history of Alcoy before its foundation, revealing unpublished aspects of everyday life between the 10th and 13th centuries.
Recent discoveries
Pérez Botí will share the latest archeological finds in Castellar d’Alcoi, which have provided new light on the activities and customs of the inhabitants of that period. These data are essential to understand the evolution of Alcoy so far.
Reflections on the importance of heritage
Ignacio Trelis, Councilor for Cultural Heritage, emphasized the importance of these initiatives to bring local history closer to citizens. “Understanding our past is key to interpreting the present,” said Trelis, adding that this conference offers a unique opportunity to rediscover the roots of Alcoy.
Excursion to Castellar: An immersive experience
For those who want to explore the subject more thoroughly, the cycle ’10 excursions around Alcoy ‘proposes a guided route to the Castellar d’Alcoi on Sunday, April 13. This activity will allow participants to see first hand the results of the excavations and deepen the knowledge of local history.
