Explosion at the Kalsu Military Base
An incident has taken place at the Kalsu Joint Military Base, located in the north of Babylon Governorate. According to the government, an explosion killed one militiaman and wounded eight, including a member of the army. Authorities have announced that a formal investigation will be opened to determine the cause of the explosion.
Denial of Air Attacks
Both the Iraqi government and US Central Command (CENTCOM) have denied conducting airstrikes in the area. Despite the first reports that pointed to possible air attacks, the US forces have denied having carried out any bombing in Iraq.
Shiite Militias and Regional Tensions
Iraq’s Shiite militias, considered a key ally of Iran in the region, have been at the center of regional tensions. These groups, such as Kataeb Hezbollah, Al-Nujaba and Asaib Ahl al-Haq, have carried out several attacks against Israeli territory and American military installations, generating an escalation of tensions in the Levant.
