Consult families
The Government has conducted a survey among families to find out which language they prefer for their children’s education. The majority has responded categorically: they want their children to be taught in Catalan.
Plan for the next course
The Conselleria d’Educació i Universitats intends to allow, for the 2024/2025 academic year, families to choose the initial language of instruction for their children. In this way, when registering the enrollment of students who will begin the 4th year of early childhood education in any publicly funded center in the Balearic Islands, families were asked about their choice between the two official languages.
Results of the test
The response has been massively favorable to Catalan. To date, the figures reflect that of the enrollments registered in the Balearic Islands, 6,692 (78.5%) families have chosen Catalan as their initial language of instruction, 1,365 (16%) chose Spanish and 467 (5.5%) %) have not specified a preference. There are still 101 registrations pending to be counted, a process that remains active and may undergo modifications during the year.
