The responsibility of the Government in illegal immigration

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the Popular Party, has focused on the management of illegal immigration in Spain, pointing directly to President Pedro Sánchez for the significant increase in irregular arrivals. According to Feijóo, while other European countries such as Italy and Greece manage to reduce their immigration figures, Spain has reached record levels.

The trip to Africa: a late response?

Feijóo has criticized Sánchez’s decision to travel to Africa at a time of migration crisis, arguing that this action should have been taken in advance. In an interview with Europa Press, the popular leader expressed that the lack of a coherent migration policy is the main cause of the current situation.

Alarming data on immigration

Recent statistics from the Ministry of the Interior show that, over the course of the year, 31,155 people have arrived in Spain irregularly. This figure represents an increase of 66.2% compared to the previous year. The majority of these migrants have entered through the Canary Islands, with a 126.1% increase in arrivals by sea.

Criticism of the management of the Ministry of the Interior

The leader of the PP has pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior is not adequately addressing the crisis, looking the other way and leaving aside the responsibility of managing migrant children. Feijóo expressed his concern for the current situation, stressing that Spain had not experienced such a serious migration crisis in its history.

A clear position: legal immigration yes, illegal immigration no

Feijóo has defended the need for regulated immigration, where people who arrive in Spain do so with the intention of working and respecting the laws. However, he has been forceful in his stance that illegal immigration facilitated by mafias cannot be accepted. “We must reject this illegal immigration,” he said.

Proposals for an immigration reform

When asked about the possibility of negotiating a reform of the Aliens Act, Feijóo criticized the Government’s lack of interest in involving the opposition in the discussion on migration policies. He stressed that the PP has presented concrete proposals to address the situation, but the Government has chosen not to consider them.

The need for a constructive dialogue

Feijóo concluded his speech by underlining the importance of maintaining an open dialogue between the Government, regional presidents and the opposition to address the migration crisis. His call for collaboration seeks a joint solution to a problem that affects not only Spain but also the European scene in general.
