The Botany area of the UIB organizes eight field trips
The Botany area of the Biology Department of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) has organized eight field trips to discover the richness of Mallorca’s flora. These trips aim to bring society and the community of researchers closer to the biodiversity of the island.
The trips will take place from May 16 to 19 as part of the fourth edition of the Spanish Flora Biomarathon. This citizen science event invites people to go out into the countryside to enjoy nature, photograph plants and learn about plant biodiversity.
Discover Mallorca’s flora and contribute to citizen science
During the trips, participants will have the opportunity to observe and photograph plants, and record them through the iNaturalist platform. This citizen science platform makes it possible to collect data on biodiversity. All you need is a mobile device with internet access and download the free iNaturalist app.

The Spanish Flora Biomarathon
The Spanish Flora Biomarathon is a citizen science initiative promoted by the Spanish Botanical Society (SEBOT) with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology. This event takes place annually around May 18, International Day of Fascination with Plants. The aim is to highlight the importance of plant research in the conservation of the environment and the benefits they bring to living beings.
During the Biomarathon, you can participate individually by uploading photos of plants to the iNaturalist platform. These photographs can be taken during guided tours or individually. All images can be uploaded to iNaturalist during the Biomarathon celebration days or up to a week later.
