A New Green Corridor in Sant Andreu

The revitalization project of Carrer del Pintor Alsamora, located near the Sant Andreu cemetery, is presented as an initiative that will transform an old parking lot into a vibrant urban agricultural park. This proposal, promoted by the City Council, seeks to respond to the demand of residents to create green spaces that improve the neighborhood’s quality of life.

Implementation Phases and Green Spaces

With a scope of more than 2,000 square meters, the project will be divided into several phases. First, priority will be given to the redevelopment of the area adjacent to the cemetery wall, where urban gardens and a promenade with fruit trees will be created. The space currently houses 346 parking spaces, of which 184 will be maintained during the first phase of transformation.

Relocation of Horts and Sustainable Design

The design of the new green corridor will include the relocation of the existing orchards in Can Valent, which will be integrated into a new landscape structure. This area will be divided into several platforms adapted to the relief of the land, with a central path that will connect the different sections, facilitating access and use of the space.

Functionalities and Biodiversity

The central platform will become the epicenter of the garden, including storage areas, accessible toilets, and work spaces. In addition, a section dedicated to fruit trees will be established, which will not only enrich biodiversity, but also provide raw materials for the community.

A Dream of More than 10 Years Ago

The concept of this green corridor is not new. More than a decade ago, residents of Porta requested the creation of green spaces in response to urban transformations that had left several vacant lots. The initiative of some residents to create vegetable gardens in La Maladeta was an attempt to stop excessive construction and revitalize the neighborhood, but was ultimately overturned by urban development.

Looking Towards the Future

With the imminent execution of this project, residents have the opportunity to see their vision of a green space realized. The transformation of Carrer del Pintor Alsamora will not only bring a new aesthetic to the neighborhood, but will also serve as an example of how communities can influence their environment through active participation and the demand for sustainable spaces.
