The commitment of the president of the Parliament
Josep Rull, president of the Parliament, continues his series of visits to exiled deputies. On this occasion, he met in Geneva with the ERC deputy, Ruben Wagensberg, to convey his commitment to guaranteeing the right to vote for exiled deputies and ensuring that his participation in the Parliament continues to be counted. Rull has expressed his support for the Republican deputy, who has been in exile since January due to his connection with the Tsunami Democràtic investigation. Furthermore, he has promised to do everything necessary so that exiled deputies can fully exercise their rights, especially the right to vote.
An anti-repressive Parliament
During the meeting, Wagensberg highlighted the importance of maintaining an ‘anti-repressive’ Table in the Parliament. This meeting is part of Rull’s visit to Geneva, where he also plans to meet with the general secretary of ERC, Marta Rovira, who has been in exile for more than 6 years. In addition, Rull is scheduled to meet with the member of the Òmnium management, Oleguer Serra, the journalist Jesús Rodríguez and the writer Josep Campmajor.
Guaranteeing the rights of exiles
Rull has reaffirmed his support and commitment to Wagensberg to ensure that exiled MPs can fully exercise their rights, especially the right to vote. According to Rull, he has already requested guidance from the General Secretariat of the Parliament on a possible modification of the regulations to ensure maximum legal coverage in the face of judicial rulings related to this issue. During the constituent session of the 15th legislature of the Parliament, Rull already pointed out the ‘anomaly’ that represents, in his opinion, that the elected deputies Carles Puigdemont, Lluís Puig (from Junts) and Ruben Wagensberg (ERC) do not occupy their seats . Wagensberg considers that the reform of the regulations proposed by ERC and the CUP in the last legislature is one of the options to explore. During the meeting, the Republican deputy celebrated that the independence movement has guaranteed a majority in Parliament. In addition to analyzing the current political situation in Catalonia, both have addressed the defense of human rights and freedoms that Wagensberg carries out from Geneva.
Round of contacts with exiles
The president of the Parliament began his round of contacts with the exiled deputies on Thursday in Waterloo, where he met with Carles Puigdemont. In addition, he plans to travel to Prats de Molló on Sunday to close the round with the Junts deputy, Lluís Puig. During his stay in Geneva, Rull also visited the Government delegation in Switzerland and met with the delegate, Gabriel Boichat. During the meeting, they discussed projects related to human rights, the environment and health, among other topics.
