Wind triggers road emergency on GC-300
The strong gusts of wind have caused an unusual incident on the GC-300, near Tenoya, where a traffic light has lost its head, according to the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
This event joins a series of incidents caused by the extreme weather conditions that affect the islands, generating a pre-alert for wind. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the risk warnings to orange in some areas, due to the passage of an Atlantic front associated with Storm Nelson, which will bring with it strong winds, waves and intense rains in several parts of the islands.
Recommendations and precautionary measures
Faced with this emergency situation, the Government of the Canary Islands has urged the population to take precautions to prevent risk situations. It is advisable to remove flower pots and loose objects from balconies and rooftops, and avoid traveling to areas affected by the meteorological phenomenon until the situation normalizes.
In case of emergency, the population is reminded of the importance of immediately calling 1-1-2 for assistance.
