An inclusive proposal at the Flower Market
From May 24 to 31, the Mercat de les Flors will host three dance shows that highlight the diversity of bodies and movement. This unique program takes a careful and open look at non-regulatory bodies and disabled professionals. Featuring dancers with Down syndrome, a dancer exploring the body from a spinal cord injury, and an ensemble of dancers with disabilities, these shows challenge conventional notions of classical and contemporary dance.
Three proposals with diverse voices and bodies
The three shows that will be presented at Mercat de les Flors are Kebo (map of the skin of a body), from Cia. Vero Cendoya, The other side of the dance, by Diana Niepce, and Harmonia, by Unusual Symptoms and choreographer Adrienn Hód. Each proposal has a unique perspective on movement and the body, and collects the voices and bodies of female creators with different trajectories and approaches.
Valuing non-normative bodies
For the director of the Mercat de les Flors, Àngels Margarit, it is important to highlight the value of non-regulatory bodies on stage. According to Margarit, these bodies have great expressiveness and artistic ability, and it is essential to recognize them as equals. The shows presented at the Mercat de les Flors are an opportunity to appreciate diversity and overcome prejudices.
An inclusive and accessible dance
The Mercat de les Flors not only promotes the inclusion of professionals with disabilities in dance, but also works to make the shows accessible to all audiences. With adapted facilities and relaxed sessions, Mercat de les Flors seeks to enable everyone to enjoy the art of dance without barriers.
A European network for dance in diversity
The Flower Market is part of the European project Europe Beyond Access, which aims to break the glass ceilings for artists with functional diversity in the world of contemporary dance and theatre. This initiative seeks to create a professional network and provide support to artists with disabilities so that they can develop their talent and be visible in the dance sector.
An opportunity to change perspectives
Inclusive dance is an opportunity to change perspectives and break with stereotypes. Through these shows, the public has the opportunity to see and appreciate the diversity of bodies and movement. Culture and art are powerful tools for understanding and accepting human diversity.
