Sanctions for Violations of the Traffic Code

During the past year, the law enforcement body has applied a total of 16,123 sanctions for violations of the Traffic Code. The majority of these penalties, specifically 12,976, have been issued for exceeding the permitted speed limits.

This indicates an increase of 4% compared to the previous year, where 12,423 radar fines were registered. However, it is important to note that this figure is lower than in 2021, when 13,678 sanctions were imposed.

More Active radars

The section radar located at CG2 in La Bartra has captured the largest number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit, with a total of 2,785 violations. This is followed by the radars located on the CG1 in Santa Coloma, with 1,843, and inside the Dos Valires tunnel, with 1,505.

Other Notable Violations

Apart from excessive speeds, other offenses that have been sanctioned include driving without having passed the ITV, disobeying horizontal signage, not presenting the insurance receipt despite having it, talking on the mobile and not wearing a seat belt, among others

Reduction of Claims in 2023

The year 2023 has registered a reduction in traffic accidents compared to previous years. Law enforcement statistics indicate 438 accidents, compared to 536 in 2022. This figure represents the lowest in the last three years, considering that in 2021 there were 496 accidents.

These accidents have resulted in 280 victims, which represents a decrease of 13.3% compared to the previous year. Despite this improvement, unfortunately, two deaths have occurred. The serious injuries have affected 27 people, while the minor injuries have been 251. Of those affected, 173 are men and 107 women, the majority being between 30 and 49 years old.

Details of Accidents

In the majority of accidents two vehicles were involved, although in 188 cases only one vehicle was involved. In some exceptional cases, up to three vehicles have been affected in a single accident.

As for the causes of accidents, collisions, derailments, collisions and run-overs stand out. There is an increase in the latter compared to previous years, as well as in motorcycle crashes.

Offenses Related to Alcohol and Drugs

A significant number of accidents have been caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Nearly 600 controls were carried out, of which 346 drivers exceeded the legal blood alcohol limit. In addition, 145 people were fined for drinking alcohol at a rate slightly below the legal limit.

In eighty cases, officers arrested drivers for driving under the influence of drugs, and in 13 cases arrests were made for the combined use of alcohol and drugs. In six situations, the drivers refused to submit to the controls.
