Representatives of pro-independence parties and organizations meet in Waterloo
The main branches of independence, political parties and social entities, are meeting this Sunday in Waterloo, Belgium, with the aim of addressing the current political landscape and coordinating the strategy regarding amnesty and return of the exiles, according to La Vanguardia and confirmed by El Nacional.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of Junts (JxCat), Esquerra Republicana (ERC) and the CUP, as well as the main pro-independence social organizations such as Òmnium Cultural, the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), the Council of the Republic and the Association of Municipalities for Independence (AMI).
Leaders present at the summit include Carles Puigdemont and Jordi Turull from Junts, Marta Vilaret and Juli Fernàndez from Esquerra Republicana, and Lluís Llach from the ANC.
The Supreme Court rejects amnesty for Puigdemont and Junqueras
The meeting takes place in a context in which the magistrates of the Supreme Court have rejected the application of amnesty to pro-independence leaders accused of embezzlement, such as Carles Puigdemont, Toni Comín, Lluís Puig, Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull and Dolors down
The magistrates consider that these leaders have personally enriched themselves with a patrimonial nature and, therefore, cannot be granted amnesty.
On the other hand, the amnesty law has been applied to some police officers and police officers charged with the violent action during the October 1 referendum.
The court battle continues
Although the defendants’ defenses, the State Attorney General’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office have been favorable to the amnesty, the judges of the Supreme Court have rejected this measure.
Now, the defendants will ask the Constitutional Court for protection and want to consult the Supreme Court judges about the constitutionality of the law.
The fight in the courts is expected to be long and complex, as Supreme Court judges have been reluctant to grant amnesty.
