A step forward in flood prevention
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has launched a new line of aid focused on creating projects designed to mitigate the danger of floods in urban areas throughout Catalonia. This initiative seeks to offer innovative solutions for the protection of the most vulnerable urban spaces.
Grants granted to the Anoia region
In the region of Anoia, two significant subsidies have been approved. The first is by the City of Carme, which will receive 13,759.35 euros to protect the stream of the Escodines. The second grant, of 38,272.95 euros, is awarded to the Mancomunitat de la Conca d’Odena to improve the river space of the Anoia river, covering the municipalities of Igualada, Santa Margarida and Vilanova del Camí.
A significant investment throughout Catalonia
In total, 78 grants have been distributed between various local entities, with a global investment that amounts to 2.1 million euros. Of the grants granted, 23 have stopped in the counties of Barcelona, 17 in Girona, 14 in Tarragona and 24 in Lleida, showing a firm commitment on the part of the ACA in the fight against floods.
Objectives and strategies of projects
The main purpose of funded projects is to reduce the risk of floodability in urban areas. This will be achieved through various actions, including the protection of the margins, stabilization of river beds, creation of lamination ponds, and the restoration of the existing hydraulic infrastructure hydraulic capacity.
Conditions of subsidies
The proposed actions must be respectful with the local ecosystem and ensure the preservation of the water masses. The grants range up to a maximum of 80,000 euros per application and 120,000 euros per municipality, taking into account the census population of the beneficiary nuclei. Thus, the aid is distributed according to the following percentages: 95% by municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants, 90% for those from 5,001 to 20,000, and 85% for populations with more than 20,001 inhabitants.
A future with less risk of floods
With an average of almost 27,000 euros per project, these aids represent a collective effort for the safety of urban communities in Catalonia. As projects progress, a significant reduction in flood damage is expected, thus improving the quality of life of citizens.
