A new ally in orthopedic surgery
Sant Joan Despí Hospital, part of the integral health consortium, has taken a step forward with the addition of an innovative robot, called Skywalker, designed to optimize knee prosthesis surgery. This tip technology not only increases the accuracy of the insertion of prostheses, but also personalizes each intervention to adapt to the unique needs of each patient.
Millimeter accuracy and advanced planning
The Skywalker allows surgeons to plan each surgery in detail before performing it, which results in a more accurate execution. The ability to foresee the behavior of the prosthesis during the intervention dramatically reduces deviations, with a margin of error of less than a millimeter or a degree. This precision not only improves the functionality of the prosthesis, but also guarantees a more natural movement for the patient.
Benefits for patients and professionals
The introduction of this robot not only transforms the patient’s experience, but also provides a more efficient work environment for surgeons. With lower aggression in soft tissues and a decrease in bleeding, patients can expect faster recovery and less postoperative complications. In addition, the Skywalker robot significantly reduces surgical errors and the time spent on each operation, which is especially valuable in more complicated cases.
Training and adaptation to new technology
The health professionals of the Sant Joan Despí Hospital have received intensive training in the use of the Skywalker, preparing them for their practical application. This tool not only serves as a support during operations, but has also become an educational resource for residents and surgeons with little knowledge in sailed surgery, which uses a GPS similar guidance system.
A long history of innovation at hospital
The Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service (COT) of the Moisès Broggi University Hospital Complex, which includes the General Hospital of Hospitalet and the Hospital de Sant Joan Despí, has more than 25 years of experience in the use of medial technology-based prostheses. This technology had already established a standard in respect of the natural anatomy of the knee, and now with the Skywalker, it is consolidated as one of the first hospitals in Europe to adopt this innovation.
A promising future in orthopedic surgery
Since its implementation in February, Sant Joan Despí Hospital has held several successful interventions with the new robot. This evolution in surgical technology not only represents a breakthrough for the hospital, but also opens its doors to a future where orthopedic surgery could be performed with unprecedented accuracy and effectiveness.
