Castelló d’Empúries has adopted an innovative security strategy, reinforcing its main accesses and risk areas with a sophisticated video surveillance system. This project, which represents a significant investment to improve public safety, establishes a pioneering standard in the region.
Advanced Technology for a Safer City
With a proactive approach, the City Council has implemented a total of 77 surveillance cameras, equipped with state-of-the-art technology that goes beyond simple supervision. These cameras, which include 12 license plate reading units, have been strategically installed at the main access points and hotspots in Castelló d’Empúries and Empuriabrava, with the aim of deterring and preventing criminal acts.
A Decisive Step towards Citizen Security
The investment in this security system, approximately 200,000 euros, also includes the monitoring of municipal facilities such as the Town Hall and sports facilities. In addition, cameras have been deployed at entrance roundabouts and nightlife areas, strengthening surveillance in sensitive areas of the town.
Future Expansion: Increasing Security Coverage
With the vision of continuing to improve security, the City Council is already considering expanding this system to other important areas of the municipality, such as the Passeig Marítim. This expansion would not only consolidate urban protection, but also strengthen the sense of security among residents and visitors.

With a centralized command room, the authorities monitor the images captured by the cameras in real time, thus improving the ability to respond to emergency situations.
