A competition that inspires

This Saturday, the Pla de la Massa building, located at the Igualada-UdL University Campus, will host more than 200 young people between the ages of 6 and 16, who will demonstrate their skills in the eighth edition of the First Lego League (FLL).

An ocean challenge

Participants will face the “submerged” challenge, which has pushed them to research and create prototypes focused on the oceans and their ecosystems. Through the use of Lego technology and its Steam skills, teams have been working throughout the course to present their innovative solutions.

The educational impact

Patrícia Illa, Councilor for Vocational Training of the City Council, emphasized the importance of this activity, which goes beyond a simple competition. According to Illa, ‘young people here not only learn to program, but also develop essential skills such as teamwork and creativity’.

An international benchmark

Sergio Sayago, director of the FLL in Igualada, emphasized the increase in participation, making this event a benchmark within the panorama of the competition. “It’s a pride to see the campus filled with enthusiasm and energy, and how teams are preparing to share their work for a year,” said Sayago.

Categories Competitives

The competition will be divided into two categories: Challenge and Explore. The first includes 16 teams between the ages of 10 and 16 from various Catalan localities, while the Expore category will host a family team from Igualada with participants from 6 to 9 years old.

Premis I recognitions

The winners will be recognized at a awards ceremony that will begin at 13.30, where awards will be awarded for the best performances in various categories, including the best robot design and First values.

Collaborations and support

The FIRST LEGO League is organized by the Polytechnic School of the UdL with the support of the City Council of Igualada and other entities such as Codelearn and ICT Anoia. In addition to the young participants, the competition mobilizes a team of volunteers consisting mainly of teachers and students of the Polytechnic School.

A brilliant future

With such a great involvement in the educational community and the active participation of young people, the FIRST LEGO League not only promotes technological learning, but also planting the seeds of a future where innovation and collaboration will be key to facing global challenges.
