More than 400 Vehicles Inspected

A campaign against intrusion in public passenger transport, including taxis, VTC and coaches, has been carried out at Palma airport, where nearly 400 vehicles have been subjected to inspection. During this operation, 76 complaints were filed in the last three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility.

Detailed Inspection

The vehicles inspected included 223 taxis, of which 80 were interurban and 143 from Palma, as well as 133 VTCs and 40 buses. This campaign has made it possible to inspect more than 30 percent of the VTC fleet and more than 10 percent of Mallorca’s taxi fleet.

Device and Complaints

The inspection device had five inspectors, three agents from the General Directorate of Mobility, nine agents from the Local Police of Palma and a daily average of four agents from the Civil Guard of Traffic. The complaints were mainly directed at 33 Palma taxis, 23 intercity taxis, 11 discretionary transport buses and nine VTC.

Reasons for the Infractions

The detected violations were varied, including breaches of the tariff regime in the case of taxis, lack of authorization in discretionary transport minibuses, other violations related to urban taxi regulations and, in the case of VTCs, unregistered services or non-compliance of the advance time in pre-contracting.

Clarifying Note

The General Directorate of Mobility has issued a clarifying note on the pre-contracting of discretionary bus passenger transport services, in response to complaints about customer recruitment practices outside the transport company’s offices or premises. According to current regulations, these services must be previously contracted, either by the transport company or by the legally authorized intermediary.
