A comprehensive educational experience

Once again, the Museum of Tortosa has joined the celebration of International Museum Day, which this year has coincided with Museum Night on Saturday 18 May. With the motto ‘Museums for education and research’, the museum has organized various activities and open days throughout the week, highlighting the fundamental role it plays in providing a comprehensive educational experience.

Activities for all audiences

Throughout the week, open days have been held, with special emphasis on visits to the city’s educational centers and visits adapted for groups with special needs. The Museum of Tortosa is also an educational center that encourages the curiosity, creativity and critical thinking of the youngest.

Conferences and performances

During the celebration of the International Day of Museums, a conference was held by the researcher of the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, Òscar Caldés Aquilué, who addressed the commercial Dertosa based on the coins found in the excavations of site of the demolished houses on Carrer Croera. This conference is an example of the collaboration between the Museum of Tortosa and the Catalan Institute of Classical Archeology in a wider research project.

A night full of music and fun

The Night of the Museums offered a performance by the trio Élia Bastida, organized by Joventuts Musicals de Tortosa and the City Council. Although the rain forced the concert to be moved to the Teaching Room, it was a success with participation and a large crowd.

Improvement of facilities

The Museum of Tortosa is working on several improvements to its facilities. The current, outdated air conditioning system will be replaced shortly, and funding has been requested to improve the accessibility of the museum. Work is also underway to improve the technical equipment of the Teaching Room, as well as the repair of the leaks in Casa de la Jota. In addition, work is underway to open a new museum room, which will house works lent by the National Art Museum of Catalonia.

A first class museum

The Museum of Tortosa is an educational and cultural space of reference in the city. With the necessary support, the museum can promote actions to restore its archeology and art collections, as well as promote research and the dissemination of the results of these studies. We are also looking to increase digitization so that the collection is available to everyone. In addition, the museum wants to be an active heritage space in the cultural life of the city, hosting different festivals and events.

A museum open to everyone

Shortly, the grounds of the Museum of Tortosa will be open to the city, allowing access through different doors and inviting people to stroll through its courtyards, visit the exhibitions and participate in the activities of the Educational Classroom. The museum wants to be a welcoming and accessible space for everyone, because culture belongs to everyone.

conclusion

The Museum of Tortosa has successfully celebrated International Museum Day, offering a comprehensive educational experience and organizing various activities for all audiences. With the support of the community and the improvements in its facilities, the museum is consolidating itself as a cultural space of reference in the city.
