The Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) coalition shows its concern

The Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) coalition, a mechanism that documents, systematizes and denounces violations of freedom of the press and information in Europe, has issued a statement expressing its concern at the criminalization and persecution of journalist Jesús Rodríguez Sellés , accused of terrorism in relation to the Democratic Tsunami case. Rodríguez Sellés, who currently resides in Geneva, Switzerland, has been exiled because of this situation.

International organizations demand a review of the case

Several international organizations, such as the International Press Institute (IPI), the European Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Free Press Unlimited and OBC Transeuropa (OBCT), have demanded that the Spanish authorities stop the investigation against Rodríguez Sellés and that they carry out a credible and comprehensive review of the case. These organizations defend fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression and information, and ask that they be guaranteed in this situation.

Internationalization of the persecution of Catalan independence

The persecution of Catalan independence has become an international issue, with the aim of publicizing the situation and obtaining international support. Those under investigation who have gone into exile in Switzerland, such as Oleguer Serra from Omnium Cultural, have denounced this persecution and sought the support of the international community for their cause.

Support of three Nobel Peace Prizes

Recently, three winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, along with twenty Catalan and international organizations, have expressed their support for activist and ERC deputy Ruben Wagensberg, who is also in exile in Switzerland. These Nobel Peace Prize winners, Jody Williams, Alfonso Pérez Esquivel and Najet Zammouri, reject the accusations of terrorism and warn about the use of these accusations to discredit political dissidents and social movements.

Concern for the investigation of the journalist Jesús Rodríguez Sellés

The investigation into Catalan journalist Jesús Rodríguez Sellés has also generated concern among journalists and press freedom organizations. A review of the circumstances of the investigation is requested and that Rodríguez Sellés be allowed to continue practicing journalism freely. As part of the Democratic Tsunami investigation, Rodríguez Sellés has been accused of having informed President Puigdemont about the launch of the Democratic Tsunami platform to promote mass mobilizations against the sentence of the Trial of the Catalan leaders.
