Tribute to a unique voice
In 2025 it has been declared as the year Isabel-Clara Simó, an initiative that seeks to pay tribute to the Alcoyan writer on the fifth anniversary of his disappearance. The city of Alcoy has turned to remember its figure through a series of activities that commemorate its contribution to literature and journalism.
Compilation of articles: ‘Word of Alcoiana’
One of the first acts in honor of Simó has been the publication of a book published by Jordi Tormo, which brings together a total of 47 opinion articles written by the author between 2014 and 2019. This volume, entitled ‘Word of Alcoiana’, collects its reflections on a wide range of topics, from the far right to feminism, through politics and science.
A commitment to reality
Simon began his journalistic career in the late 1960’s, challenging the rules that demanded a degree in Journalism to write. After studying philology, he did not hesitate to train in journalism to share his ideas. This passion for communication lasted until its last days.
A diverse and committed legacy
The articles compiled in ‘Word of Alcoyan’ show the diversity of Simon’s interests. His last column, published on December 31, 2019, is a proof of his commitment to writing, despite the adversities of his health. In his texts, Simon not only expressed opinions, but also reflected on his life and relationships with literary friends and figures.
Recovering his voice
The book will be distributed for free during the celebration of Book Day in the bookstores of Alcoy, with the aim of keeping his voice and communicative legacy alive. This action seeks to reconnect readers with their work and their unique perspective.
More activities to remember Simon
In addition to the publication of the book, the Department of Culture of Alcoy has announced other initiatives to celebrate the life and work of Isabel-Clara Simó. Among the activities scheduled is an exhibition at IVAM each scheduled for May, a ‘Júlia’ concert and a theatrical performance. These initiatives show that Simon is a benchmark not only in literature, but also in the cultural and artistic landscape of his city.
