Report reveals multiple attacks on humanitarian convoys in Gaza

According to a report by Human Rights Watch, the Israeli military has carried out at least eight attacks on humanitarian convoys and their facilities in Gaza since October. These attacks have occurred despite the fact that humanitarian organizations had provided the coordinates to the Israeli authorities. In total, these attacks are estimated to have caused the death or injury of around 31 people.

Attack on World Central Kitchen convoy

One of the most tragic incidents occurred on April 1, when seven aid workers were killed in drone strikes in the city of Deir al-Balah. The missiles fell on a convoy of three vehicles from World Central Kitchen (WCK), an organization that provides food aid in emergency situations. Human Rights Watch reported that the convoy followed a route agreed upon with the Israeli military and that no warning was received before the attack.

Other attacks on humanitarian aid convoys

The report also details other attacks on humanitarian aid convoys in Gaza. For example, on December 9, the Israeli navy fired cannons at a UNRWA guest house in Rafah, where 10 employees were sleeping. The attack occurred even though the guesthouse’s coordinates had been regularly shared with Israeli authorities. In another incident, on January 8, an Israeli projectile pierced the side of a building where more than 100 Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff and their families were sheltering. In both cases, no warning was received before the attacks.

Conclusions of the report

The Human Rights Watch report reveals a series of attacks against humanitarian convoys in Gaza, in which the principles of international humanitarian law have been violated. These attacks have caused the death and injury of humanitarian workers and innocent civilians. It is important that impartial investigations are carried out and measures taken to prevent future attacks on humanitarian convoys in the region.
