A new artistic chapter in the viewpoint room
On Sunday, May 18, the Mirador Room of the Molí Paperer de Capellades Museum hosted an inauguration that has left a significant imprint on the local art scene. The new exhibition by Josep Bou, entitled ‘Roses’, ‘Genesis’ and ‘Africa’, attracted a large audience and was attended by the director of the museum, Victoria Raval, as well as other figures in the community.
The singular vision of Josep Bou
With a trajectory that covers various disciplines, including press and advertising photography, Bou has embraced a creative journey that recovers the essence of traditional photography. Through the use of materials such as craft paper, the photographer seeks to create a sequence of images that are not only visual, but also a testimony of photographic crafts. Bou states: “The purpose of this exhibition is not only the support used, but also my intention to give these works to the museum’s art collection.”
THE PAPER COM TO PROTENIST
The exhibition is the result of an artistic project that Bou started at the end of the 20th century, when it opened the doors of its laboratory to a wide variety of paper, handmade with natural fibers. Each sheet of paper, designed specifically for this sample, has become a fundamental element in the creation of images they experience with photographic chemistry. The interaction between paper and emulsion is key to achieving images that convey a deep expressiveness.
Exploring universal topics
The three collections presented – ‘Roses’, ‘Genesis’ and ‘Africa’ – are an amalgam of themes that reflect the diversity of his work. ‘Roses’ offers an intimate look at the shadows of a bouquet of roses, capturing the essence of temporality in black and white images that challenge perception. ‘Genesis’ invites to reflect on creation through the representation of a naked body, evoking the universality of human existence in a closed space.
Africa: a visual journey
In his collection ‘Africa’, Bou offers us a fragmented but rich vision of life on the African continent. Images are not only visual representations, they are also a deep exploration of everyday life and nature, using the natural fibers of the paper to intensify the colors and textures. This approach allows the photographer to connect with the landscapes in a unique way, highlighting his ability to capture the essence of those places.
Final reflections on the exhibition
This exhibition is not only a presentation of images, but an invitation to live and feel photography as a constantly evolving form of art. The transformation of the paper, once used, symbolizes the journey of each work of art, now turned into a unique original. Thus, the presentation of Bou at the Paper Molí Museum is a tribute to creativity and tradition, a space where the past and present are melted to give rise to new visual narratives.
