A Window to Road Infrastructure
The recent open doors held at the L-05 conservation and exploitation center, in Albatàrrec, gave citizens the opportunity to explore the hidden world behind the maintenance of the AP-2 highway in Lleida. This activity, organized by the State Highway Unit, took place within the framework of the Open Administration Week 2025, and was attended by the Government Subdelegate, José Crespín, and the head of the Highway Unit, Juan Antonio Romero.
Objectives of the event
The main purpose of this day was to inform the community about the resources and personnel that the Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility allocates to the conservation of road infrastructure. From traffic management to network safety, the event highlighted the importance of maintaining roads in optimal conditions.
Vial maintenance and safety
In the center, fundamental equipment is also stored for the ‘winter road plan’, which is activated in times of snow or ice. The Highway Unit has 57 QUITANIVES, 13 salt stores and 19 brine deposits, key resources to guarantee safety during winter.
Investment in infrastructure
Crespín emphasized that the Ministry annually invests more than 15 million euros in the conservation and safety of the state road network in Lleida. This investment reflects the government’s commitment to the safety and maintenance of more than 500 kilometers of roads in the province.
A dedicated team
The Subdelegate also highlighted the effort of a team of more than 180 professionals who work tirelessly 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to ensure that the roads are maintained in adequate conditions for driving.
Conservación centers
The road unit in Lleida operates five conservation centers located in Lleida, Tàrrega, Torrefarrera, Vielha and the Seu d’Urell. From these strategic points, an extensive road network is managed that includes important roads such as A-2, AP-2 and A-22, among others.
Final reflections
The open doors not only served as an opportunity to educate citizens about work behind the maintenance of roads, but also highlighted the importance of road infrastructure for safety and mobility in Lleida. These efforts are fundamental to keeping communities connected and facilitating safe transport in the region.
