A Controversial Decision
The recent plenary session in Alcoi has left many citizens feeling frustrated. After the vote, the expressions of those present showed deep discontent. The community has expressed its intention to fight legally against the parking project, determined to spare no effort or resources in its defence.
A High Cost
Since Mayor Peralta’s decision more than two decades ago, the Rosaleda project has represented a significant expense: 4.3 million euros, which translates into 72 euros per inhabitant. This contrast becomes even more evident when comparing the criticism of the Popular Party towards other initiatives, such as the bicycle lane, which received mostly European funding.
The Rehabilitation of the Plaza
Currently, the Plaza de la Rosaleda is undergoing rehabilitation, a mandate from the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community that obliges the City Council to restore the green area. However, citizens remain divided between disbelief and anger, especially considering that more than 6,000 signatures were collected in opposition to the removal of this green space.
The Influence of Corruption
The history of the car park is also intertwined with the figure of Enrique Ortiz, a businessman known for his links to corruption scandals. His participation in local projects has been marked by irregularities, such as the case of the Calderón, which went from costing 1.6 million to 12 million, with unjustified payments that raised suspicions.
A Hopeful Future
Despite the inconvenience that the works may be causing to residents and merchants, it is expected that by early next year, the new Plaza de la Rosaleda will be ready, offering leisure spaces and green areas. Although the felled trees will not return, the community will recover a space that should never have been destroyed.
Distrust in Politics
The perception of wasted resources and political decisions that ignore citizens are factors that drive people away from politics. Despite recent efforts to promote citizen participation, it is crucial to remember the decisions that have harmed the community, such as the Rosaleda and Calderón projects, which have not had the consensus and real benefit of the residents.
Final Thoughts
If the Partido Popular, under the leadership of Mr. Pastor, had not ignored the established regulations and procedures, the citizens of Alcoi would still be enjoying the original Rosaleda, thus avoiding the double cost they have had to bear. The history of this project is a reminder of the importance of responsible public management and the need to involve the community in decisions that affect its environment.
