A day full of activities for all
Next Saturday, March 1, La Seu d’Urgell will become the epicenter of Carnival 2025, with a series of events that promise fun and joy for all audiences. The day will begin with the traditional costume rua, a vibrant show that will fill the streets of the city with color and music.
La Rua: a show of creativity and tradition
From 17:30, Plaça Catalunya will be the starting point for the great parade. The participating groups, accompanied by the Dance and Dance Association of La Seu d’Urgell, King Carnival, and other groups such as the Devils Group of Alt Urgell and the Tamboril of the Damuka Batucada Group, will cross an itinerary that includes the main streets and squares of the city, until reaching the multipurpose track of the sports area.
Prizes and recognitions
Once the rua is completed, a recognition ceremony will be organized in the participating groups, with the awards ceremony, which will be led by Ivan Caro. This activity adds a touch of competitiveness and excitement to the celebration.
Young Carnival: A safe and fun party
The fun will continue on the multipurpose track from 21:00, with a party dedicated to young people from 12 to 16 years old. This party, which will have the music of DJ Geri Moli, is an opportunity for teenagers to enjoy carnival in a safe way, as alcohol will not be served. Attendees will be able to obtain a free consumption at the Young Office, until stocks are exhausted.
Recovering traditions: Cerdà Ball
In addition to the activities of the afternoon and night, on Saturday it will also mark the return of the Ball Cerdà de Carnaval. This tradition, which had been an essential part of the celebrations until the 1930’s, will be revived with the participation of the Cobla Bellpuig. The couples dancers will meet at 11:30 in the garden of Andria, and then move to Patalín Square, where the dance will end with an emotional show.
A look at the past
The recovery of Cerdà Ball symbolizes a tribute to the traditions lost during the Civil War and an effort to keep the local culture alive. Thus, the Carnival of La Seu d’Urgell is not only a holiday, but also a way of remembering and celebrating the history and roots of the community.
