Call for Leadership and Action
The former president of the Generalitat and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, has urged us to assume the necessary leadership to confront crime situations, such as the tragic shooting that occurred during the night of the Sant Joan festival in Girona. This incident, which took place on Acà cia Street, resulted in the death of a 44-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man, as well as serious injuries to two more people. Faced with this situation, Puigdemont emphasized the importance of protecting the majority of citizens from crimes committed by a minority, which in no case represents society as a whole.
Response and Coordination
Puigdemont praised the initiative of the vice mayor and joint leader in the Girona City Council, Gemma Geis, to request the urgent convening of the Local Security Board to address the events with determination and coordination. He highlighted that insecurity and organized crime do not represent only a local challenge, but a threat to the entire society, thus supporting Geis’s call to make firm decisions.
Support and Recognition
Furthermore, Puigdemont expressed his support for the agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra and the municipal police of Girona, as well as the workers and users of the Trueta Hospital, who treated those injured in the violent episode. For his part, Geis condemned the events, expressed his condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims, and recognized the work of the police authorities and health services.
Recovery and Normality
The Trueta hospital in Girona has returned to normal, with preventive police presence, after the shooting. Two of the injured people remain hospitalized in stable condition, and the hospital has reestablished its usual services. The Mossos d’Esquadra have launched an investigation to clarify the facts and find those responsible.
