A New Chapter at the Naval Academy

On August 29, the Princess of Asturias, Leonor, takes a significant step by starting her second year of training at the prestigious Naval School of Marín, located in Pontevedra. On this occasion, the young woman has had the privilege of starting later than her classmates, which makes a notable difference in her adaptation to the military environment.

A Divided Agenda: Learning from Two Fronts

Leonor’s academic year will be divided into two phases. The first will take place at the Naval School of Marín, where she will join as a midshipman, and the second will begin in January, when she boards the ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, in Cádiz. This emblematic ship is not only a symbol of the Navy, but also the stage where Leonor will consolidate her training before returning on July 16, coinciding with the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of the Navy.

Challenges and Expectations

Upon entering the School, Leonor will meet classmates who have already made progress in their studies, which raises some concerns for her mother, Queen Letizia. Aware of her daughter’s uniqueness, Letizia has taken the time to research the students who will share classrooms with Leonor, seeking to ensure that their environment is suitable.

Daily Life at School

The former student of the school points out that, upon reaching the third year, midshipmen enjoy certain privileges, such as a more flexible schedule and the option to choose who to sit with in the dining room. Despite the responsibilities and rigorous routine, Leonor and her classmates have the opportunity to socialize more freely.

Routines and Commitments

The Princess’s day begins early, at 6:45 in the morning, with the obligation to keep her room in order. At 8:00, after breakfast in the company of her classmates, the ‘police review’ takes place, a crucial moment when it is verified that each student is properly uniformed. Classes, which begin at 9:00, are structured in 45-minute sessions, interspersed with short breaks, allowing students to maintain an efficient pace of study.

Reflections on the Future

With this new academic year, Leonor is not only facing academic challenges, but also beginning to forge her identity as a future Head of State. The pressure that comes with her position is undeniable, but her dedication and commitment will guide her on this path. As she enters this new stage, it is clear that her military training is more than just an education; it is an essential component in her preparation to take on a leadership role in the future.
