Mobilizations in Caracas in defense of the truth
María Corina Machado, prominent figure in the Venezuelan opposition, has once again called for popular mobilization to denounce what she considers electoral ‘theft’ by the government of Nicolás Maduro. In a massive rally in Caracas, thousands of citizens have expressed their support for the fight for democracy and justice.
Rejecting government control over institutions
Machado pointed out that the recent actions of the Supreme Court of Justice, controlled by the regime, are a desperate attempt to seek legitimacy. “They are trying to clean up their image, but the people know the truth,” he said, stressing that the international community has not recognized Maduro’s victory.
The voice of the people: a cry for freedom
During his speech, Machado emphasized the need to continue the fight for change, stating that ‘the people of Venezuela voted for change and Edmundo González Urrutia is our elected president’. This statement resonated with the attendees, who responded with chants of ‘freedom’.
The call to the security forces
The opposition leader made a direct appeal to the Armed Forces and the Police, asking them to act with integrity and to stand by the people. ‘They know what happened in the July elections’, he said, urging them to guarantee transparency and to make public the information that the government hides.
Repression and arrests: a worrying context
Despite the intense repression that the opposition has experienced, with around 2,500 arrests in the last month, Machado has reiterated the importance of not giving up. ‘We cannot allow fear to paralyze us’, he declared, urging the public to remain mobilized.
An uncertain but hopeful future
Machado concluded his speech with a note of hope, emphasizing that the cause of freedom in Venezuela is a struggle that transcends borders. ‘This is a global cause’, he said, remembering that every step towards democracy is a triumph for all those who fight against injustice.
