A Look at History

On Thursday, in commemoration of World Refugee Day, the opening of the exhibition ‘Refugees. The other side of the Civil War in Manresa’ at the Manresa Museum. This exhibition offers a revealing insight into the situation of refugees in Manresa during the Civil War, highlighting the reality of the 3,000 people who were welcomed into the city while fleeing Franco’s troops. Through various artistic pieces and historical documentation, an immersion in this crucial period of local history is presented.

A Current Vision

In addition to the historical perspective, the exhibition also offers a contemporary view of the refugee issue. Through artistic works by the artist Montserrat Gual Rodríguez and the students of the Escola d’Art de Manresa, we invite reflection on the current situation of refugees and the conflicts that continue to affect them.

Voice of the Refugees

During the opening event, the book ‘We had to leave’ by the author Laia de Ahumada, which collects the testimonies of six young migrants, will be presented. In addition, two international refugees will share their experiences, offering a direct and emotional insight into the reality of refugees.

Current Commitment

The inaugural event will also have the presence of welfare organizations that offer services to refugees in Manresa, such as Red Cross, Apip Acam, Fundació Tomàs Canet and Fundació del Convent de Santa Clara. Thus, the community’s current commitment to this humanitarian issue is highlighted.
