March: A Month Dedicated to the Women’s Voices in Vilafranca

Activities to celebrate the 8M

The month of March in Vilafranca presents itself as an exceptional opportunity to give prominence to female voices. The activities begin on the 6th with the play ‘Another place’, a interactive theatrical proposal of Caravan project aimed at primary and secondary students. The highlight of March 8 will be the reading of an institutional manifesto in the statue of working women, followed by the presentation of the campaign ‘My work is worth gold’.

Talks and debates that encourage reflection

The Center for Studies of the Ports will be the scene of a talk that explores the Francoist repression towards women, focusing on the figure of the Vilafranca Gloria Corbatón. This talk, which is part of the cycle Dialogues of the Ports, will have the participation of experts in the subject such as Juan Luis Porcar and Narcís Tena.

CULTURE AND EDUCATION: A month full of activities

The month will also include monologues, talks on menstruation and book presentation, such as Noelia Caballero Peña’s ‘Luz scarcracles’. The Social Home will host various activities that seek to break taboos and foster discussion on important issues for the community.

Guided tours and exhibitions

Guided tours of the dry stone museum will continue with winter schedules, offering an opportunity to discover local history. In addition, three outstanding exhibitions will be available: ‘Industrial culture: the DNA of a transformation community’, and ‘Women of the Republic making history’, which can be visited in different periods of the month.

Sports and powers

The sport will also have its space in March, with events such as the IV School Duathlon and football competitions, paddle tennis and frontenis. These activities not only promote healthy competition, but also unite the community around sports values.

Cinema and storytelling: entertainment for everyone

Every Sunday, the social house will project a selection of films, including titles such as ‘Buffalo Kids’ and ‘La Casa’. There will also be activities for the little ones, such as the storytelling ‘En Bum and the Magic Book of Fairies’, which promise to enrich the month with moments of fun and learning.

Community celebration

The party of March 8, organized by the students of 2nd of Baccalaureate of the IES Vilafranca, will be the point of pride of the month. With an initial ‘tarden’, a shared dinner and a discomobile to close the day, the community joins to celebrate and vindicate the rights of women in a festive and collective way.
