The palamosí, who already had the place for the 1,500 m, will also participate in the 3,000 m thanks to the losses in the world ranking

Adel Mechaal (Asics) is not content with just one event at the short track world championships in Glasgow, which will be held from March 1 to 3. The Catalan middle-distance runner, who won the state titles of 1,500 and 3,000 m in Ourense, will also contest these two distances at the Scottish meeting. The palamosí was already qualified for the 1,500 m and yesterday he received confirmation that he could also run the 3,000 m, after the additions and deletions of the athletes registered in the world ranking were taken into account.

Mechaal and his coach Antonio Serrano have accepted the challenge of doing the double without any pressure, but with the desire to give everything. The program for the Asics athlete in Glasgow will be as follows: Friday at 21:10 eliminatory 1,500 m; Saturday at 21:40 h final of 3,000 m; and if he has qualified, Sunday at 10.30 p.m. final of 1,500 m.

Nine more athletes join the Spanish team

The Spanish Athletics Federation has expanded the list of athletes who will go to the short track world championships in Glasgow with nine more names compared to the initial eleven. These are Sergio López (60 m), Isabel Pérez (60 m), Eva Santidrián (400 m), Lorea Ibarzábal and Lorena Martín (800 m), Marta García and Agueda Marqués (3,000 m), Fatima Diame (long) and Ana Peleteiro (triple jump). In addition to Mechaal, the Catalans Jaël Sakura Bestué (60 m), Esther Guerrero (1,500 m), Xènia Benach (60 m hurdles) and Maria Vicente (pentathlon) already had the ticket for Glasgow.
