The Madrid coach spoke to the media after the victory against Rayo: “Our goal was to control their unmarked player, but we didn’t have the necessary continuity to be too direct and we had losses. Fortunately, the losses were in depth and Rayo couldn’t go out on the counter-attack”, said Míchel, who also praised his team’s work without the ball: “Our pressure was very good and two against two on the wings we managed very well. I have not seen any clear occasion of them. In the second half we improved and the goal gave us confidence. We have recovered very well, Yangel has been excellent, and we have been able to take advantage of the spaces where we are very strong”.
“We were coming from three games without a win and we wanted to solve the games too quickly”
One of the few aspects to improve was the excess of anxiety and haste to attack zone three after a bad run of results in the league: “Since we had gone three games without winning, we wanted to end the games too quickly. I asked Yan to calm down after losing eight balls”, explained the coach of Girona. He was also asked about the pressure that comes with competing at the top of the rankings: “It’s normal to have it and this pressure to fight for the Champions League is good. It must be valued. We all have to notice it and yesterday I saw a Celta Cádiz and these situations are very difficult. By winning, we placed second and we have to assess where we are. This team has brought us this far and we can’t lose the energy we have.”
“All the players have been very good, this is the most important thing on a day-to-day basis”
Finally, Míchel wanted to highlight the game of his players: “Eric and David’s defensive game is very good. Also Miguel who has overcome the duel in De Frutos after a game where he suffered a lot. I also talk about Couto or Yangel, for me the best. Aleix had a good second half and Savinho is very important for us, maybe he should have come off earlier. I don’t want to fixate on any one player because they have all been very good. This is the most important thing on a day-to-day basis, that everyone is important”, concluded Míchel.
