Initiatives for improved access
With the celebration of the Moors and Christians festivities in honor of Sant Jordi on the horizon, the City Council of Alcoy has taken significant measures to improve mobility during this event. The festivities, scheduled from May 3 to 5, will attract thousands of visitors, and the city is preparing to guarantee fluid and safe access for everyone.
Reinforced public transport
To facilitate travel, a shuttle bus service has been implemented that will be available for both festeros and the general public. On the day of the entrance, the buses will operate in two time slots: from 9:30 to 13:00 for the Christian entrance and from 16:00 to 19:30 for the Mora entrance, thus facilitating access to the parades.
Specific routes and schedules
The buses will take the journey between the junction of El Camí with Sant Mateu and the musician Pérez Laporta with Carbonell musician. In addition, it has been decided to maintain the prohibition of access to the square Eres to guarantee the security of the attendees, a measure that has shown their effectiveness in previous editions.
Free parking areas
In order to reduce traffic to the town center, several free parking areas have been enabled. To access the party from the south, the drivers will be able to park in the Filà Verds streets, Filà Navarros and Vicente Balaguer, while from the north, the industrial estate of low levels, high levels and the street Tirant lo Blanc will be the options available.
Connection with the fairgrounds
These parking areas will be connected to the fairgrounds by means of a bus service that will operate at a frequency of 15 minutes to the north and 30 minutes to the south. The first buses will leave at 7:50 and 8am, respectively, with the last service at 11:00 pm (north) and 11:30 pm (south).
Extension of the Regional Bus Service
The bus service that connects Alcoi with Cocentaina and Muro will also be expanded during the holidays. At dawn from May 2 to 3, there will be exits every hour between 23:00 and 07:00, an operation that will be repeated in the morning from May 3 to 4. Also, additional exits are added on Saturday of the entrances, and a special service to Alicante with stops in Ibi, Onil and Castalla.
Adaptations in urban transport
During the holidays, the Alcoy urban bus will modify its lines and schedules, which can be consulted on the digital platform created by the City Council. A specific area for caravans and coaches in the Batoi district has also been prepared, with designated streets to facilitate the arrival of these vehicles.
Commitment to sustainable mobility
Jordi Martínez, Councilor for Festivals, emphasized the importance of mobility for the good development of the festivities. He stated that ‘we are committed to a sustainable, secure and organized transport system that facilitates participation and allows to enjoy the festivals with tranquility’. This initiative not only seeks to improve the experience of attendees, but also promotes a model of environmentally friendly mobility.
