Winter as a source of inspiration
The arrival of winter transforms landscapes into a world of snow and mystery. In Russia, day lights are diluted soon, giving way to a night universe that, paradoxically, shines with the magic of snow. This duality between dream and reality has been a recurring theme in art, and the composer Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky was no exception.
The creation of the symphony N. 1
In a time of personal and creative turbulence, Tchaikovsky was pushed to create his first symphony, ‘Winter Dreams’, in a deep insomnia state. His distorted perception of reality led him to doubt his own existence and his musical legacy. Despite his concerns, he was able to present his work to the world, later reviewing it in order to accurately capture the sound vision of his mind.
The Concerts de l’BC program
On February 14 and 15, the Barcelona and National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) will offer a concert that will include this emblematic Tchaikovski symphony. Under the baton of the guest director Stephanie Childress, the show promises to be an unforgettable musical experience. Childress, recognized for his ability to connect with the public, will also direct works by Montsalvatge, as well as a solo concert that will vary depending on the day.
The prominent soloists
The Friday concert will feature the interpretation of the violinist Yamen Saadi, who will present the Concert for violin in Re of Korngold. On Saturday, the pianist Albert Cano will take the stage with the concert for piano n. 1 in re b of Serguéi Prokofiev, who was released when the composer was still a young man over the age of twenty.
The Music Roads of Prokophiev and Korngold
Prokofiev, with his concern for originality, received various opinions on his first piano concert. Many considered him innovative, while others despised him. His aspiration to get rid of the influences of his time was a constant in his career. On the other hand, Korngold, after leaving behind his stage as a film composer, sought to reaffirm his musical identity through the violin concert in Re, merging his film experience with classical music.
Xavier Montsalvatge and Symphony Calidoscope
To open the concerts, the ‘Symphonic Kaleidoscope’ will be presented, a work by Xavier Montsalvatge that was born as a music for ballet. This piece, despite its short duration, captures the essence of ballet and its melodic richness. Montsalvatge, a versatile composer, knew how to integrate various musical genres, creating a sound mosaic that reflects his creativity and innovation.
