Bibiana Vallmajó: A Passionate Leader
Bibiana Vallmajó Cantenys, teacher of Early Childhood Education and mayor of Navata since last year, is a prominent figure in local politics. As the niece of the missionary Quim Vallmajó, she brings a unique perspective to her charge, guided by values of compassion and service.
Leading the areas of Health, Social Welfare, Education, Agriculture, Local Administration and Urban Planning, Vallmajó is committed to transforming Navata into a more participatory and prosperous town.
A New Era for Navata
Som Navata, the political group led by Vallmajó, emerged in 2023 as an evolution of Junts per Navata. With a new name and logo, the group aimed to revitalize the municipal government after the retirement of Jaume Homs, mayor for 36 years.
Upon assuming office, Vallmajó found a well-organized municipality, but with some areas that required attention. Cleanliness, the operation of municipal facilities and other aspects had suffered a certain decline in recent times.
However, the mayor was optimistic and determined to address these challenges. Together with her team, she set out to reorganize the town and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Priorities for the First Year of the Mandate
Citizen participation has become a fundamental pillar for the Vallmajó administration. It has created spaces for neighbors to express their opinions and participate in decision-making.
Among the initiatives implemented, a neighborhood meeting on the installation of security cameras and another on the water situation and drought stand out. These meetings have allowed citizens to stay informed, raise questions and contribute to municipal policies.
In addition, the City Council has published a monthly newsletter with information of interest and the agenda of activities, promoting transparency and communication with neighbors.
Reordering and Participation: The Path to a Better Navata
Instead of focusing on large construction projects, Vallmajó and his team have set out to reorganize the town to make it more livable and pleasant.
Citizen participation is not only limited to political decisions, but also extends to daily life. The City Council organizes activities for all ages, such as ballroom dancing, yoga and self-defense classes, and sports days.
The mayor is also working to improve the connection and links between Navata and the Torremirona development, fostering a unified sense of community.
Housing, Sustainability and Development
Navata has a housing cooperative that is in the process of development. The mayor sees this initiative as a sustainable way of living in the community and hopes that it will contribute to the revitalization of the town.
In terms of sustainability, the City Council has carried out an asbestos census in municipal buildings and has given residents the opportunity to report the presence of this material in their homes.
The administration has also opposed a macro solar park project that would affect the municipality, arguing its visual impact and its location on fertile farmland.
Inclusion and Opportunities for All
Vallmajó has reactivated the Children’s Council, which involves the school’s students, and plans to include adolescents in this project to encourage their participation.
This summer, the City Council will launch the “Young Brigade”, a space where young people can spend their free time and contribute to the town by carrying out useful tasks.
In addition, a festival commission has been created that has received a great reception. For next year, the City Council plans to implement participatory budgeting, allowing residents to decide on the allocation of funds.
