An innovative model for Christmas holidays

The Diputació de Barcelona has decided to expand a pioneering project that has proven to be a resounding success, establishing a new model of Christmas markets in four municipalities. This initiative was born with the aim of transforming Christmas holidays into a commercial attraction, similar to successful models in Europe.

Results that speak for themselves

During the last Christmas campaign, the pilot test attracted more than 57,000 visitors, generating an impressive economic impact of 4.8 million euros. This figure reflects not only the interest of the citizens, but also the importance of these initiatives to revitalize the local economy.

Comprehensive support for municipalities

With a budget of 300,000 euros, the Diputación provided technical and economic assistance to the participating municipalities, helping with aspects such as renting of stops, decoration and animation activities. This investment has been crucial to ensure the success and sustainability of markets.

Impact on consumer behavior

The visitors spent between 26 and 60 euros per person, with more than half enjoying a meal in the municipality. The general assessment of the attendees exceeds 8 out of 10, and more than 80% express their intention to visit these markets again.

A space of social cohesion

Josep-Ramon Mut i Bosque, Member of Commerce, Consumer and Public Health, emphasizes that these markets have not only brought economic benefits, but also served as community meeting points. This emphasizes the importance of creating spaces where citizens can participate and connect.

An opportunity for more municipalities

In the face of the success achieved, the Diputació de Barcelona has decided to integrate this model as a stable service for city councils with less than 30,000 inhabitants, offering the opportunity to replicate this experience to other localities.

Guide for implementation

In order to facilitate the implementation of these markets, the Diputación has published a specific guide that will be available to all interested municipalities. This tool seeks to share knowledge and experiences to ensure that the success of Christmas markets can be replicated in other areas.
