A step forward in social housing
In the heart of Alcoy, a building rehabilitated on Sant Maure Street has become the home of four families who needed a social home. This initiative, which is part of the EDUSI project, aims to ensure that elderly with disabilities or dependency are accessing a dignified environment and adapted to their needs.
Investment and structural improvements
With an investment of 354,894.06 euros, partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the project has allowed the integral rehabilitation of the building, including the installation of an elevator and improvements in energy efficiency. These actions are essential to ensure the accessibility and comfort of new residents.
Situations of vulnerability addressed
Families who have been welcomed in these new homes come from contexts of vulnerability. Its previous housing situation was often marked by precariousness, with threats of exclusion and architectural barriers that made it difficult for a decent life. These new homes have now been designed to house small family units, with a special approach to accessibility needs.
A growing market for social housing
The demand for social housing is evident, with 37 applications received, although only 12 met the necessary requirements. The Councilor for Housing, Teresa Sanjuan, emphasized the importance of this action as part of a wider strategy for regenerating neighborhoods and providing support to vulnerable groups.
Commitment to social cohesion
Sant Maure’s project is not an isolated case, but is part of a wider revitalization strategy for the historic center of Alcoy. The City Council is working on several similar initiatives in the area, with the aim of promoting inclusive and accessible neighborhoods for all.
A promising future for the elderly
With an increase in the demand for homes for people over 60, many of whom live alone or as a couple with limited pensions, the situation is becoming more and more urgent. The City Council of Alcoy undertakes to continue working on social housing policies that are fair, sustainable and adapted to the current needs of the population.
An unshakable commitment to accessibility
Councilor Teresa Sanjuan has reaffirmed the City Council’s commitment to ensure that everyone has access to proper and decent housing, especially the most vulnerable people. The established line of work will continue in the coming years, with the intention of guaranteeing a better quality of life for all citizens.
