News in Jéssica Albiach’s Candidacy for the May 12 Elections

Name Change and Coalition

Jéssica Albiach’s candidacy presents two important novelties for the elections on May 12. The first of them, the most outstanding, is the name change, which eliminates the reference to Podem and incorporates Sumar. This adjustment represents a significant turn, since the followers of Yolanda Díaz have emerged victorious in the dispute with Podemos in Madrid and, in Catalonia, they have managed to join the group led by Ada Colau. In this way, the electoral coalition leaves behind the name of En Común Podemos and simplifies itself to Comuns Sumar.

Another notable aspect is the inclusion of the mayor of Prat, Lluís Mijoler, as Albiach’s deputy. Following the loss of influence in Barcelona, where the Commons have fallen to third position after Colau’s eight years of government, El Prat becomes the main town hall in the hands of the party. Mijoler is also the head of municipal policy for Catalunya en Comú and, in this position, he has led the opposition to the expansion of the airport.

New Featured Figures

One of the new figures is Andrés García Berrio, who joins as an independent in third position. García Berrio is founding co-director of Irídia and activist of the platform against Foreigner Internment Centers (CIE). His addition brings a more activist profile to Albiach’s list.

The rest of the profiles represent continuity to the project that the Comuns have developed in the Catalan parliament during the last legislature. Between numbers four and seven, Susanna Segovia, David Cid – a key profile of the parliamentary group – Nuria Lozano and Enric Bárcenas repeat. Alícia Ramos, former deputy in Congress, Ramon Arnabat, Jordi Manils and Aurora Huerga complete the first twelve positions. Ada Colau and Joan Subirats close the list.

Candidates for Girona, Tarragona and Lleida

The candidacy also presents outstanding candidates for Girona, Tarragona and Lleida, thus expanding its presence in different regions.
