Olot City Council is about to finalize the drafting and design of the new municipal indoor swimming pool
Olot City Council is in the final stages of drafting and designing the new municipal indoor swimming pool. This new facility is scheduled to begin construction this fall and is not expected to be operational until the summer of 2026. Although the groundbreaking has not yet been laid, the city council has already taken some decisions about the services and functionality that this new equipment must have.
Decision not to hold school swimming courses in the new pool
One of the decisions taken is that school swimming lessons will not be held in the new pool. The mayor of Olot, Pep Berga, has expressed his opinion on this decision, stating that swimming lessons should continue at Club Natació Olot. According to the mayor, this will prevent overcrowding of the municipal pool and ensure that retired people and other users can enjoy the pool without interference. Berga also emphasizes that the Olot Swimming Club has the experience and resources necessary to provide this service to children and residents of the city.
Directed activities and health services
Although school swimming lessons will not be held in the new pool, it is planned that it will offer other targeted activities. The council is approaching the design of the pool from a health perspective, prioritizing the needs of people looking to stay fit and recover from operations or injuries. Mayor Berga emphasizes that the new indoor swimming pool will be designed to meet the needs of this public, offering them a suitable space to carry out exercises and activities that promote health and well-being.
The first indoor swimming pool in the city
Olot’s new indoor swimming pool will be the first facility of its kind in the city. Currently, the only indoor pool available is that of the Olot Swimming Club. With an estimated cost of more than five million euros, the new indoor swimming pool will have a large water bowl of 25 x 16.5 meters, with eight lanes and a smaller complementary pool of 16.5 x 8.5 meters . This new infrastructure will become a reference space for the residents of Olot and will provide more opportunities for physical activity and sport in the city.
