Planned employment and key events
The Costa Dorada and Terres de l’Ebre sign up for an absolute plenary session during Easter, with expectations of employment ranging from 80% to 90%. Hotel managers are optimistic, especially for the busiest days of Easter, with screenings reaching 90%.
Tourist apartments, on the other hand, expect a moderate occupation between 60% and 70%, although the good weather and the attractiveness of sports tourism will be determining factors.
Sports events as a engine of tourism
Berta Cabré, President of the Business Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Tarragona, emphasizes that the celebration of more than 45,000 athletes in various competitions will contribute to the large influx of visitors. “The programming of sporting events helps us to foresee a high employment,” he says.
Hotel Sol Port Cambrils: an example of success
An example of this trend is the Hotel Sol Port Cambrils, which recently hosted a group of Kenya footballers. Gustavo Cabedo, its CEO, emphasizes that the organization of sporting events allows to better plan reserves, especially during periods of high demand such as Easter.
Expectations to camping facilities
The campsites sector also provides for high occupancy. It is estimated that inland campsites will get 85% occupancy in bungalows and 65% on plots during the first part of the week. The coast campsites, meanwhile, could reach 90% in bungalows and 80% on plots.
Challenges for rural accommodation
In contrast, expectations for the rural lodgings of Terres de l’Ebre are less promising. Juanjo Bel, President of Atubre, expresses concern for an occupation that will not exceed 80%, reflecting a downward trend in reserves compared to previous years.
The tourist profile above
Most tourists who will visit the area come from nearby regions such as the Basque Country, Navarra and Aragon, with a significant increase in international visitors, including people from Ireland, the United Kingdom and France. Also, the campsites will receive a good number of tourists in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
A single Easter
The combination of sports and family tourism, together with the diversity of visitors, makes Easter on the Costa Dorada a unique experience. With the operation of Reus Airport on the run and the start of group trips, expectations for the coming months are optimistic.
