The return of Junqueras: a new chapter for ERC
After a period of reflection and talks with militants, Oriol Junqueras has decided to present his candidacy to resume the reins of ERC, a party he has led for more than a decade. His official presentation, titled ‘Militància Decidim’, will take place on Saturday 21 September at the Passion theater in Olesa de Montserrat, where he will be accompanied by other prominent party figures, such as Raül Romeva and Diana Riba.
A tour of Catalonia: dialogue with militancy
After his resignation on June 10, Junqueras has been in constant contact with ERC militants, holding events in several Catalan towns, starting with Sant Vicenç dels Horts. This listening process has been fundamental for his candidacy, which seeks to connect with the needs and concerns of the base of the party.
The reaction of the current management
At the same time, the management of ERC, headed by Marta Rovira, has summoned the militancy to explain the negotiations with the PSC and the recent pact that has allowed Salvador Illa to assume the presidency of the Generalitat. This context has generated an intense debate within the party about the future direction of ERC.
A message of renewal and change
The candidacy of Junqueras is presented as a renewal proposal, with the aim of revitalizing the party after a period of uncertainty. The members of ‘Militància Decidim’ have highlighted the importance of listening to militancy and of presenting the main points of their proposal, which seeks to give new impetus to ERC.
The support of the base
A recent manifesto, supported by more than a thousand signatures of militants, calls for a ‘general renewal’ within the party, a sentiment that resonates in the sectors that have asked Junqueras to step aside to open spaces for new voices and leadership
The panel of speakers
In addition to Junqueras, the Olesa event will be attended by other relevant figures such as deputy Ana Balera, former councilor Bernat Solé, senator Laura Castel and mayor Marc Puigtió. Some of these militants have expressed concerns about the date of the national congress set for November 30, questioning whether it is in line with the party’s statutes in light of recent political events.
Looking to the future
With this new stage, Junqueras aims to revitalize ERC and respond to the demands of its militancy. His presentation in Olesa will be a key moment for the future orientation of the party, in a political context marked by the need for renewal and internal cohesion.
