The Reality of the Digital Breach in Catalonia
Catalonia faces a significant challenge in accessing information and communication technologies (ICT). An important part of its population, especially vulnerable groups, is excluded from this digital world, which generates a gap that limits its employment and educational opportunities. This situation not only perpetuates socioeconomic inequalities, but also increases the risk of social exclusion.
Impact on future generations
An alarming data reveals that more than half of vulnerable households cannot provide the necessary educational support to their children. This not only affects the present, but also has serious repercussions for future generations, as many children do not have access to the Internet or appropriate devices to develop the digital competencies that the current world requires.
Enhancing for responsible use of technology
The Comtal Foundation has promised to combat this digital gap, not only facilitating access to technology, but also promoting conscious and responsible use of it. Its mission includes providing training and tools that help prevent risks associated with inappropriate use of technology.
The Code project: A transformative initiative
With the support of the European Union through the Nextgenerationeu Recovery Plan and the collaboration of the Ministry of Youth and Children of the Government of Spain, the Foundation has launched the Code project. This initiative seeks to reduce the digital gap through training and access to digital resources for those who are in vulnerable situations, with special attention to children and young people.
Fostering digital autonomy
According to Carles Martin, the Code project, “many young people we work with do not have the devices or the knowledge needed to meet the challenges of digitalization. With this project, we not only teach them how to use basic digital tools, but also provide them with the resources to be more autonomous and discover new employment opportunities.”
Positive results and promising future
To date, the Code project has benefited more than 120 children and young people, giving them digital competencies that open new educational and work ways. This program not only facilitates learning of skills such as the use of email or safe navigation on the Internet, but also helps them to manage online procedures, thus promoting their autonomy.
Long -term commitment to inclusion
With more than 30 years of experience, the Comtal Foundation continues to work to accompany children, young people and families in vulnerable situations, providing emotional, educational and work support. Through initiatives such as the Code project, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to ensure that everyone has access to a future full of equal opportunities, thus contributing to the construction of a fairer and inclusive society.
