Arrested two people with 533 marijuana plants
The National Police, together with Customs Surveillance and the Local Police of Maçanet de la Selva, has carried out a joint operation that has culminated in the arrest of two people who had 533 marijuana plants in two houses in an urbanization in Maçanet.
The public’s collaboration was key to this operation, since the agents received information that made them suspect that marijuana was being grown in these two buildings.
Discovery of plantations and material for their cultivation
After the relevant investigations, they proceeded to enter and register the two properties with the participation of 25 agents of the UIP, the public order units of the National Police, in addition to investigative agents of the body and Customs Surveillance.
Inside the buildings, the agents discovered the two plantations, in addition to 859 grams of marijuana buds, as well as all the equipment necessary for cultivation, such as air conditioners, irrigation wiring, transformers, dryers, fans, carbon filters and fertilizers.
A worrying aspect is that those in charge of the plantations had tampered with the electrical installation, plugging in the light illegally, which increases the risk of fire.
Legal and economic consequences
In addition to the marijuana plants and the material for its cultivation, 1,000 euros in fractional notes were also involved. As a result of this operation, the two people were arrested, although one of them was released pending a court summons.
It is estimated that the two arrested would have defrauded a total of 79,230 euros in electricity consumption, since they had manipulated the electrical installation for the illegal cultivation of marijuana.
The police operation has highlighted the involvement of different security forces in the fight against the illegal cultivation of marijuana in Maçanet de la Selva, demonstrating the importance of citizen collaboration in this type of operation.
