Alliances and the future of the Generalitat

The co-coordinator of the Comuns, Jéssica Albiach, has expressed her satisfaction with the recent agreement between her party and the PSC, which seeks the investiture of Salvador Illa as the new president of the Generalitat. This agreement has been a decisive step in a political context marked by the need for stability and negotiation.

Criticism of the new financing model

Albiach also addressed the controversial financing system that has been agreed upon by ERC and the socialists, which will be put to a vote by the republican militants. Despite the criticism that has arisen around this model, Albiach explained on Catalunya Ràdio that the true origin of the inequality between territories lies in practices such as tax dumping, particularly evident in communities such as Andalusia and Madrid.

Responses to Sumar’s concerns

The disagreement also reverberates in the ranks of Sumar, as certain members such as Compromís have expressed their discontent with the new model. Albiach has responded, pointing out that the concerns should not be focused solely on the Catalan territory, but also reflect a broader concern about the distribution of resources that affects communities such as the Valencian Country.

The possibility of a coalition with the PSC

Regarding the possible entry of the Comuns into the PSC government, Albiach has made it clear that although it is not ruled out, this is not the main objective of the current negotiations.

Illa’s leadership expectations

The leader of the Comuns has insisted on the need for Illa to demonstrate his commitment to the established agreements. According to her words,

Reactions to Puigdemont’s return

Regarding the possible return of Carles Puigdemont, Albiach has emphasised that his return will not alter the results of the elections. However, he has suggested the importance of convening the parliamentary groups in case Puigdemont is arrested, and has set a deadline for his decisions regarding this situation.

Political rights and freedom

Albiach stresses that it is crucial that Puigdemont be free to return whenever he wishes, thus reinforcing the idea that political rights must be protected in Catalonia.

Controversy over airport expansion

A point of disagreement in the pact between the PSC and the Comuns has been the expansion of the airport, an issue that has been left out of the sphere of negotiation. Albiach has argued that such an expansion would be harmful from an environmental point of view, highlighting the negative impact on pollution and tourism.

Environmental responsibility in the political debate

This approach demonstrates Albiach’s commitment to a policy that prioritises environmental sustainability, proposing a broader debate on the implications of such projects on the quality of life of citizens.
